Gemma Paddington is host of Healthy Lifestyle on Voice FM and one of the main subjects she's focusing on is the menopause.
Many women are unaware of the symptoms and the causes, and, that keeping fit is a key part of making the menopause much easier to cope with.
Another aspect is how effects people at work, and the impact it has on female employees, not only in the office, but also at home.
In a recent show Gemma was delighted to have the opportunity to talk about all of this with top athlete Dame Kelly Holmes, who is an advocate for mental health and has herself woken up to the problems females go through, but also brings some solutions for employers.
Alongside her personal changes Kelly was also bringing to the table one of the organisations pushing for more recognition and support for women experiencing menopausal symptoms at work, the Welltech company and supplement specialist LYMA.
It has put together a free guide for employers and women in business as well as offering corporate subsidies for their supplements and free access to expert advice via their Supplement MOT hotline.
Gemma started by asking Dame Kelly Holmes if understanding the menopause, and perimenopause was becoming a passion for her.

Dame Kelly Holmes – who has spoken openly about her own challenging symptoms – backs drive to offer businesses and women more advice on navigating menopause at work
Dame Kelly Holmes is backing a drive to offer businesses and women in business more advice on navigating the menopause in the workplace.
The Olympic gold medallist, who has spoken openly about the challenges she’s faced during perimenopause, now takes part in various menopause roundtables to enable more women to become empowered during this stage in their lives.
The former athlete comments: “I believe that menopause should be recognised as a natural and significant part of women’s lives both personally and professionally.”
She continues, “The menopause affected me in ways I never expected during my career. My healthy habits hadn’t changed but my body definitely had! I think it’s time we make these conversations not just acceptable but encouraged in the workplace and provide greater flexibility, so that women can truly thrive during this phase of life.”
One of the organisations pushing for more recognition and support for women experiencing menopausal symptoms at work is Welltech company and supplement specialist LYMA.
It has put together a free guide for employers and women in business as well as offering corporate subsidies for their supplements and free access to expert advice via their Supplement MOT hotline.
The guide includes information on:
How employers can develop a menopause policy
Practical ways to help employees affected by menopause symptoms
How to approach your GP
How employees can approach their employers
Key statistics:
The NHS estimates that around 13 million people are perimenopausal or menopausal in the UK which is equivalent to a third of the UK population*
One in four women in the UK have considered leaving their jobs because of menopause**
Less than a third of businesses see the commercial value in understanding more about it***
Lucy Goff, Founder of LYMA said: “We’re taking matters into our own hands because women need support in the workplace now, not another government proposal, or consultation period.
“We need the government’s new Menopause Employment Champion, Helen Tomlinson to act at speed to turn her goal of normalising menopause in the workplace a reality.
“Until that happens, we will offer our expertise to businesses who understand the economic fallout of women leaving the workforce due to menopause.
“We have been campaigning for better menopause rights and supporting women through the menopause for years now.
“By giving women a boost, we can boost the economy too.”
The Supplement MOT hotline was established several years ago and proved so popular with over 70% of calls related to menopause that it’s still a live hotline today. This service is accessible through the LYMA Concierge (https://lyma.life/contact/).
A lot of confusion exists around supplements with many brands unvalidated and poorly formulated leaving those looking for a natural remedy unsure of the best solutions.
LYMA has a team of experts including doctors specifically trained on the use and effectiveness of supplements and, the service is designed to help women to decode and demystify the world of menopause supplements.
Its supplements are peer-reviewed and contain patented ingredients that are proven to deliver results across sleep, anxiety, beauty, focus and performance.
LYMA also holds a regular ‘Menopause Live’ event with guest speakers, authors and to ensure this hot topic is a focus for employers all year round and not just in Menopause Awareness Month.
