All Eyes on Fly-Tipping at Riverside Park

Southampton City Council is stepping up its fight against fly-tipping with a new state-of-the-art solar camera installed at Riverside Park.

Funded by the UK Shared Prosperity Fund, the camera will be remotely monitored to catch offenders and deter future dumping.

This upgrade replaces older battery-powered cameras that required frequent visits to collect footage. The new system provides real-time access, allowing for a swifter response to fly-tipping incidents.

"We are committed to keeping Riverside Park clean and safe for everyone," said Cllr John Savage, Cabinet Member for Green City and Net Zero. "This camera demonstrates our ongoing investment in a greener Southampton."

Fly-tipping is a serious offense, and those caught on camera face hefty fines or even prosecution. The council has already issued over 100 fixed penalty notices for fly-tipping and littering in the past year.

The car park at Riverside Park also houses charity donation banks. Residents are reminded to only donate when there is space available and to take items elsewhere if the banks are full.
