BLACK BUSINESS ART MUSIC FESTIVAL

THIS SUNDAY 1ST OCTOBER - 11am - 6pm!! COME ALONG AND ENJOY A FREE DAY!

It is centered around promoting inclusivity, celebrating diversity within black cultures, and fostering opportunities for growth and success.

 

This event is celebrating the diversity of black cultures, traditions and heritage, including

  • enabling people to immerse themselves in these cultures
  • creating opportunities and support for our hidden talents to shine and a pathway for progression
  • recognising the contributions of black businesses, showcasing them and creating supportive networks for growth
  • inspiring black people to realise that change sits in them and that the collective power would lead to success
  • networknng with black businesses/talents
  • connecting with each other and with black people
  • connecting with services across the city

It is also there to;

  • create visibility and voice for local black businesses and artist
  • create an inclusive event that supports belonging within a diverse city
  • allow the wider community to appreciate and learn about different black cultures and traditions
  • celebrate the achievements of black businesses and artists
  • promote black businesses and black talents

 

It is about gaining control and rewrite the narratives to tell own human stories, share cultures the way their heart desires. You will see black music, DJ's, comedy, dancers, and of course artists!

 

The schedule of the day

commemoration and remeberance of black soldiers who died in both World Wars at 12.15pm. this includes;

  • Group pictures with guests from the reception at the civic centre
  • March/parade from civic centre carpark followed by the guests from the reception to the Guildhall square
  • March by the Guildhall forecourt and arrived at the stage for talk
  • Minute silence
  • Laying flowers to pay respect to the black soldiers who died in the world wars
  • Certificate presentation to the soldiers

 

The public doors will open at 1pm, where the following will happen;

MAST - Huge visual art exhibition

  • Visual art workshop
  • Audio visual experiences of poetry

JHG - Arts and craft workshop

  • Incredible local black films as part of Southampton stories
  • Traditional Caribbean and Gambian games

 

There are 40 stalls consisting 63 black businesses and 18 organisations including,

  • 7 African and Caribbean food stalls and 1 dessert stall
  • fabrics, hair and beauty, barbers and salons
  • arts and craft
  • drinks and sauces
  • music, drumming and steel band
  • painting
  • supplements
  • skin care
  • funfair rides
  • health hub

 

on the music stall, there will be the Macca foundation showcasing Ebony Rockers; also mostly DJ's, but selected singers too. There are African drumming, workshop, singing and dancing, along with the ateel band and dancing.
