Inspiring the next generation of maritime professionals

Maritime UK Solent is calling on women working in science, technology, engineering, and maths (STEM) to inspire young women to pursue similar careers. The organization is seeking STEM ambassadors to take part in the Maritime Roadshow for Girls, which will be held on Tuesday, March 5, 2023, at Cowes Enterprise College on the Isle of Wight. The event is aimed at female pupils aged between 11 and 14 and will feature a variety of interactive activities, including speed networking sessions with women working in STEM-related jobs.

"We're keen to gather female professionals from local maritime industries to join us at the Roadshow," said Anne-Marie Mountifield, Chair of Maritime UK Solent. "They will be part of the process of inspiring girls, early in their secondary education, to consider some of the exciting STEM-related careers in the sector."

The Maritime Roadshow for Girls is part of National Careers Week, which runs from March 4 to 9, 2023. The event aims to encourage girls to consider careers in STEM and to address the gender gap in the maritime sector.

"It's vital that we engage with secondary school girls to show them the range and value of STEM careers and how important they are to a thriving maritime sector," said Mountifield. "The Solent region has a wealth of innovative tech industries and STEM careers available, and encounters like this event are key for girls considering their way forward."

Women working in STEM are encouraged to sign up as STEM ambassadors for the Maritime Roadshow for Girls.

The event will be held on Tuesday, March 5, 2023, at Cowes Enterprise College on the Isle of Wight.
