Starting Saturday, February 10th, 2024, things are changing for how much you pay to cross the Itchen Bridge. Here's the breakdown:
Cars and light vans: No more off-peak discounts! It'll be £1 each way, all the time. But Southampton residents with a SmartCities account still get a break, paying only 40p.
Heavy goods vehicles: Buckle up for a bigger toll - it's jumping from £25 to £40. This is the first increase for heavy goods vehicles in over 15 years.
The City Council wants to: Keep the bridge in good shape: All those vehicles take a toll on the bridge, and major repairs are coming this summer. The new tolls help pay for the upkeep.
Manage traffic: By making the bridge a bit more expensive, especially for heavy goods vehicles, the Council hopes to encourage people to use other routes or consider different ways of getting around.
What about residents?
Don't forget to sign up for a SmartCities card to get your discount! You can do it online at https://soton.cc/smartcities or pick up an application at Gateway or any Southampton library.
Remember: These changes start February 10th, so plan ahead and be prepared!
