Recycle Week & International E-Waste Day in Southampton

Recycle Week runs from Monday 14 - Monday 21 October and International E-Waste Day is on Monday 14 October.

Recycling is a crucial part of our commitment to sustainability and environmental responsibility. It’s not just a personal choice but a collective responsibility that has far-reaching impacts on our community and the planet.

By actively participating in recycling, we are taking a proactive step towards preserving our environment for future generations.

Cllr Eamonn Keogh, Cabinet Member for Environment and Transport said:

“We all must work together on recycling. This coming week, from Monday 14 October until Monday 21 October, our six main libraries will accept cables and small electrical items (no vapes or batteries please). These libraries are:

  • Bitterne Library
  • Central Library
  • Lordshill Library
  • Portswood Library
  • Shirley Library
  • Woolston Library

“Remember that we also have dedicated areas for electrical items, batteries and vapes at the Household Waste and Recycling Centre and you can check online for your nearest point by going to https://soton.cc/recycleyourelectricals.”

Recycling is essential for conserving natural resources, reducing pollution, and minimising the amount of waste that is incinerated or ends up in landfills.

By recycling, we can significantly decrease the strain on our planet's ecosystems and lessen our carbon footprint. Additionally, recycling plays a vital role in creating a circular economy where materials are reused, repurposed, and recycled, rather than being discarded after a single use.

As individuals, we have the power to make a positive difference. By adopting responsible recycling habits, we can contribute to a more sustainable future and create a cleaner, healthier community for all.

Stay tuned for helpful recycling tips on Facebook throughout the week and you can find out more on our webpages here.

As a reminder, in Southampton, there are six items you can recycle at home. These are paper, cardboard, aluminium cans, tins, empty aerosols and plastic bottles.
