Southampton FC and AFC Totton raise £380 for Voice FM during matchday show 'Early Doors!', backing a new studio equipment project for the volunteer-run station.
Over the weekend, our station manager Xan Phillips was invited to Southampton Football Club to join Episode 7 of Early Doors!, a special light-hearted matchday show hosted by Tom Deacon.
During the programme, the team from AFC Totton took part in a 60-second penalty challenge to 'score' money by kicking footballs through holes of varying sizes in a canvas wall. Together, they raised £345 for Voice FM.
In a surprise turn of events, football legends Franny Benali and Matt Le Tissier also took part, boosting the donation to £380 - all generously provided by Southampton FC.
Xan said he was “absolutely delighted and grateful” to both AFC Totton and Southampton FC, adding: “This is a great start for our project.”
He revealed that the project involves investing in a new suite of state-of-the-art broadcasting equipment, as Voice FM continues its legacy of over 14 years on air. The upgrade will support passionate volunteers in honing their broadcasting skills with modern technology, helping prepare them for future professional opportunities.
