Classics at 1 With Andy Lumsden

Andrew Lumsden is a renowned organist and conductor.

He has held positions at Southwark Cathedral, Westminster Abbey, Lichfield Cathedral and, until July 2024, he was Director of Music at Winchester Cathedral.

As a soloist he has performed across the world.

In 2018 he gave one of the opening recitals on the new organ at Auckland Cathedral. Other venues have included such diverse places as Harare, St Tropez, San Francisco and Bergen.

He will be undertaking his sixth tour of the USA in 2025.

Through his work with the Waynflete Singers, he has conducted many of Britain’s well-known orchestras, including the Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra, the BBC Concert Orchestra, the English Chamber Orchestra and Florilegium.

He regularly appears on BBC radio and television, most recently on BBC Radio 4 in a service marking the 100th anniversary of the BBC Singers, with whom he has worked for nearly 40 years.

Away from music, Andrew enjoys wine, cricket and flying planes.
