Your Green Breakfast

Presented by Xan Phillips, who currently hosts the environmental show ‘Your Green Voice’ (Thurs 2pm), this new breakfast show continues the “temporary” show that started during ‘Our Earth Week’ in late November 2023.

“The launch of ‘Your Green Breakfast’ began when the community radio stations joined forces for ‘Our Earth Week’ as a preview to the COP28 climate conference,” said Xan Phillips.

“There was enough news, intrigue, and positive listener response to continue the show through COP28 itself,” Xan added, “and with the conference overrunning, and Christmas around the corner, we carried on until the end of the year.”

“Another strong reason to be permanent, is that our station’s target audience is the most concerned about climate change, so to make it a regular place to get your green updates is a logical decision.”

Along with focusing on local green news, such as Southampton being one of five global cities nominated for National Park City status, Xan also gives local pollution and UV forecasts, and updates on how much sustainable energy the UK has generated in the past 24 hours.

“We’re trialling a one-hour show from 8am as this is the perfect time for people of all ages to get positive environmental news, and as our audience is really concerned about the future, it feels there could be an appetite for the show to start at 7am.”

Xan is no stranger to environmental broadcasting, having covered the first Climate Change Demo in 2005 as a podcaster.

Joining Voice FM as a volunteer in 2011, he presented a business show for 5 years, and then switched to the environment in 2020 due to the growing concern and anxiety amongst the public about climate change, and the lack of consistent coverage in the media.

“The aim,” said Xan, “is to make environmental news as positive as possible, while sourcing guests who have solutions for a better future.
